On March 17, 2010 the FCC will be releasing its broadband recommendations to Congress. These recommendations will affect television stations. Wireless companies claim there is a looming spectrum crisis, and have urged the government to look at reassigning broadcast spectrum. Television stations and consumers invested billions of dollars to receive HDTV and more than 1400 new multicast signals. The industry is deploying mobile video services. Broadcasters say spectrum is needed to provide these new services, which are a critical part of the nation’s wireless video ecosystem. Who is correct? In this provocative discussion, we’ll explore the twists and turns of this contentious issue, what it could mean for the future of broadcasting, and whether there is a workable solution for everyone involved. This joint panel will be part of MSTV’s Annual Membership meeting.
